Membership
As a cooperative, American Legend was founded, capitalized, operated and is owned by mink producers from Canada and the USA. North American ranchers are the only persons who may become members of American Legend Cooperative.

To become a voting member in American Legend, a person (individual, partnership, limited liability company, corporation, etc.) must meet the following criteria:

1. The person must be an active mink producer.
2. The person must produce the mink in Canada or the USA.
3. The person must have sold at least 1,200 mink through the American Legend Auctions Division during the preceding marketing year.
4. The person must be in good standing as determined by the American Legend Board of Directors.

A person may also become a nonvoting member by meeting the above criteria except that the person must sell at least 300 mink through the American Legend Auctions Division during the current fiscal year.

American Legend's earnings are invested in marketing programs and/or distributed to the member/owners in the form of patronage distributions. A patronage distribution can be in cash or cash plus a written notice of allocation. The amount of patronage distribution a member receives is based on the value of business done with American Legend by the member during the respective fiscal year. Both voting and nonvoting members are treated the same with regard to the determination of the person's pro-rate share of American Legend's patronage income.

Each voting member of American Legend has one vote in cooperative matters. The voting members elect the American Legend Board of Directors. The Board of Directors hires the President and Chief Executive Officer and approves all persons appointed to other officer positions.
